Grant Summaries & Outcomes

The fund has partnered with The Foundation for the Carolinas and issued the first grant in 2021. We are blown away by the continued support of friends, family, individuals, and companies that have joined our family to change the lives of people who cannot afford the mental healthcare they need. We look forward to identifying and partnering with additional organizations that serve these individuals everyday. These organizations, their staff, and volunteers are our heroes and we are passionate about providing the necessary funds to help them carry out their missions.

HEALTHY MINDS, HEALTHY LIVES GraNT

September 2021: Provides 80 additional therapy sessions for women and children in transition to stable housing.

Gracious Hands is a non-profit organization that serves homeless women with children in the Charlotte, NC area. The rate of homeless women with children is at an all time high in this area. Gracious Hands is a temporary home, equipped with supportive resources to "LOVE WOMEN AND CHILDREN BACK TO LIFE". Over the years, Gracious Hands has served 270 women and their children. A vast majority—75 percent—successfully transitioned out of the facilities and into their own home. They continue to thrive. Gracious Hands serves and houses 40 families each year from four weeks to one year before they transition. The average woman who resides at Gracious Hands’ facilities has two children.

At Gracious Hands, we believe you can’t only provide shelter. If you’re going to do this work, you have to address the whole individual, which includes mental health. For our target demographic, there is a high likelihood that at least one person in the family has experienced some type of trauma due to homelessness and circumstances. . Due to the trauma of their circumstances, there is an increased risk for depression and anxiety. Our licensed mental health therapist has been with Gracious Hands for four years, and she leads our women through various techniques and exercises. She specializes in both mental and behavioral health, as well as addictions. Although Gracious Hands is grateful that they can provide weekly therapy sessions to the women and their children, oftentimes the residents need more than one weekly session. With the Charles Pfeiler Fund for Mental Health partnership, Gracious Hands will be able to make a huge impact on the community.
